About

I’m Jamie Hong, my husband Nolan and I have two kids (from my first marriage), two dogs (Natto & Emmett), and a business — Pop Creative Media, which we opened in 2016.

Pop is a video production & virtual events company serving nonprofits and small businesses in Hawaiʻi (you can learn all about the origins of that business on our Pop site). But before we went out on our own, we did a lot of commercial-type work for big & small companies as part of a corporate team — me as a producer/director/editor, Nolan as account executive, client and actor.

One thing we both noticed was that most of the time, the people watching the commercials would have no idea who the commercial was for. They might remember that funny commercial with the dog, or they might say wow that commercial was gorgeous, but they wouldn’t know if it was for a bank, an airline, or an insurance company, let alone which bank it was for. We see this in the online space too, with testimonials and overview videos that could work for pretty much anybody in a given industry.

So once we started working with our own clients as Pop, we made it a top priority to figure out how to approach each video so it serves a purpose, conveys a message, and distinguishes that company/organization from all the rest. That’s one of our “whys” behind starting Easy Peasy Video School (Easy Peasy) — we want to show you how to approach your video marketing so you don’t put a ton of time and energy into something that doesn’t end up doing anything for you.

Our second “why” comes from all the requests we get to do projects that honestly could be done in-house. At one time (back in the 1900s when I was in college 😆) the cost of the cameras and other equipment put in-house video production totally out of reach for small companies. The editing equipment alone was over $150k when I graduated 💰😲

Today, all of this stuff is totally affordable and user-friendly! And with how the online algorithms favor video, plus the fact that youtube is the second biggest search engine, there’s huge incentive for small orgs to create more of their own video content, instead of spending thousands of dollars each time they want to put out a video.

So that’s it, the story behind why we created Easy Peasy and what we hope to do for you.
